Vale Colin Waller
The AHA National & NSW family lost a true great this week – long serving NSW and National Treasurer, publican and all round good bloke Col Waller of the Shoalhaven Heads Hotel.
A delegate for the South Coast for 20 years, Col was loved by all and will be sadly missed. One of the all-time great raconteurs Col had a great mind, a sharp wit and was never short of a tale over a beer.
He was a great advocate for the industry and for his South Coast community – a loyal and generous friend to all, a proud father of son Andy and loving partner to Robbie.
Good friend 2GB’s Mark Levy paid tribute to Col while filling in for Ray Hadley this week. He summed up the feelings of many with his words in a five-minute on-air tribute re-calling their long friendship;
“I’ve met plenty of great Australians and Col was one of the most remarkable people I have ever come in contact with… A true gentleman and the world is poorer without you.”
Out thoughts are with Robbie and Andy at this difficult time.

PASSING OF PETER BURNETT AMThe President, Executive Committee, Council, staff and members of AHA (Vic) are deeply saddened by the passing of Peter Burnett AM. Peter was President of AHA (Vic) from 1997 to 2018 as well as National AHA President for three terms. He provided outstanding leadership by fearlessly and effectively representing the interests of publicans and hoteliers. He was a Life Member of AHA (Vic) and AHA National. In 2015, Peter was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) “for his significant service to the tourism and hospitality sector at the State and National level and as a supporter of charitable and sporting groups.” Peter will always be fondly remembered and respected as a true publican, proud of the vibrant industry that he tirelessly contributed to in countless ways. He enjoyed the comradery unique to the hospitality industry and valued the many friendships he formed over the journey. He was loyal and fiercely protective of not only his much loved industry but also ‘his people’. He will be remembered for his out-spoken support for individuals and organisations in need, for years to come. Peter’s leadership legacy reflects the evolution of AHA (Vic) into one of the State’s most influential lobby groups, universally respected by its many stakeholders. Our condolences to Jan, Nick and Emma and families. Memories of Peter will forever live at AHA (Vic). Peter’s presence and friendship will be greatly missed. The memorial service for the late Peter Burnett AM will be held at the Geelong Football Club, on Thursday the 2nd of May, at 1pm.
