3/6/11 – Hotels hit harder than most by wage increases

The $19.40 per week national wage increase announced today will have a disproportionate impact on the hotel industry, which is more exposed to higher penalty rates for night time and weekend work. Australian Hotels Association CEO Des Crowe said hotels would feel the impact of the increase at night time and on Sundays and public holidays, when employers must pay additional penalty wages.  View media release

13/5/11 – AHA to fight for access to Budget training initiatives

The Australian Hotel industry is facing a period of uncertainty regarding access to the major training initiatives announced in the Federal Budget. The Government’s Building Australia’s Future Workforce program includes $3 billion in funding over six years to maximise the productivity of the Australian workforce, yet the AHA fears the hospitality sector could miss out on the benefits.
